What can I work on to help my child improve their Math Skills?
Gaining quick knowledge of addition and subtraction facts to twenty is my primary focus for your children at this point in the school year. We are working with both bigger and multiple numbers at this point in the school year. However, gaining these skills becomes more difficult for children when they do not have the foundation. Also these task begin to take more time for your child when they have to go back and use their number lines. Work with your child whenever you get the chance so that these facts are memorized by your child. This way they know them rather than having to figure it out for each step of a problem.

Moving into borrowing when subtracting as well as carrying when adding. These are more difficult topics for children to understand. Many children have yet to develop the basic math facts of addition and subtraction. It is important to develop these concepts first in order to gain harder math concepts. Once these facts are mastered you can start to work on borrowing and carrying with your child. The more they practice, the better they will become at the strategy.
Please work with your child on their spelling words each week. It is important for them to gain the skills and responsibility of practicing these words. Also this will add ten new words to their vocabulary in which they can use in their reading and writing.
